A day on the LoNgSiDe: My oh My we are Grandparents!! (oh and Uncles and Aunt too!)

Our beautiful granddaughter (and niece) Ava Mae Barth has arrived!!

She was born on July 20, 2008 at 8:44AM and weighed 7lbs 6oz and is 19 inches long with a full head of dark hair!

Nikki was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital on Friday because of high blood pressure and was put on Magnesium to control it. A decision was made by Doctor the to induce labor on Saturday so they began Pitocin at 8AM. Around 10:45AM they broke her water and we all waited for her to dilate.. Poor Nikki really had an extremely rough time of it.. ;( she was in so much pain and the dilation was so very slow... We left the hospital around 4PM when they told us it could be hours or even tomorrow for her to deliver and then received a call from around 10PM telling us that she is at a 7 and is feeling a lot of pressure and should be delivering soon.. So we all headed back and unfortunately for Nikki the dilation never really happened fast. We left the hospital at 4AM and poor Nikki only got to an 8.5. =( We received another call from Lance at 7:30AM and told us they are going to deliver Ava via C-Section so after over 24 hours of very difficult and painful labor little Miss Ava would arrive. We rushed back to the hospital and waited for word of Ava's arrival.. Around 9:30ish we saw proud daddy come out and tell us that she is here and they took us 2 at a time to go see her. Unfortunately the kids could not come but we took pictures to share.

Because of the Magnesium, Ava had to be put in the NICU on oxygen and IV fluids until all of the magnesium is out of her system. We are not able to hold or touch her at this time but as of yesterday Momma could hold her and feed her which is very good news

Mom and Baby are doing fine and recovering well.. We can't wait for them to be able to go home hopefully on Tuesday or Wednesday!
